CAN I USE BASKETBALL SHOES / RUNNING SHOES AS OPPOSED TO BOXING SHOES

A difference is made by real boxing shoes. For instance, running shoes have a lot more ‘grip’ in the base of the shoe. When pivoting in your feet to generate angles or when simply turning during your rear foot or hooks throughout a straight right, running shoes grasp the floor preventing an easy rotation of your foot. Boxing shoes don’t do this. Running shoes may also be designed to secure your feet during forth and back movements, but not side to side. Boxing shoes do supply support when transferring your feet laterally.

There’s no comparison: a difference is made by boxing shoes. Outside of wearing a running shoe, tennis shoe, or basketball shoe which means that your feet don’t slip on a smooth surface, there is absolutely no advantage to wearing non-boxing shoes over naked feet when boxing.

In reality, I go as far as to say that boxing shoes are just one of the easiest ways to improve your current boxing functionality as a beginner. It’s not many sports that wearing a pair of shoes could make you better. But in the event of boxing, well, this is the case. Foot support, your general foot grip, and footwork will enhance.
